We are excited to add Challenge Ultra 200TX to our range of fabrics for Custom Bags. But what the heck is this fabric, and does it deserve to be called ultra?

The story is really centred around something called UHMWPE, which is the unbranded name of Dyneema® or Spectra®. It stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, and that is the source of the name, Ultra. UHMWPE fibres are the lightest and strongest fibres commercially available, with a tensile strength 15x stronger than steel – so wow, Ultra by nature.

And its nice too! The Challenge Ultra range is made entirely from recycled plastics drawn from post-consumer waste, and laminated with eco-friendly adhesives. Wow, Ultra!

The particular fabric we are offering is Ultra 200 TX, and it is the lightest of the fabrics we have available. But we don’t want to offer you any old light fabrics, if they don’t last they aren’t for us. What makes this fabric incredible is despite being our lightest fabric, it has the highest abrasion resistance, and its waterproof coating is the most durable of any of our pack fabrics. That’s pretty Ultra right!

Available in black, or Bikepacking’s fastest of colours – white. I’m not sure if its just that white bags are the fastest, or whether fast people choose white, but either way we know white bags are hot stuff.

Incase you’re interested, here’s a comparison of all our fabrics in table form!
